D in mechanical engineering in 1980 from Osaka University. Then, he worked as a researcher in the Research & Development Department at Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (IHI). At IHI, he worked as a researcher of aircraft engines and gas turbines, and had also designed compressors and fans of jet engines. Prof. Okamoto has served as Editorial Board Member for leading energy journals and Chairperson of the 10th International Symposium on Advanced Science and Technology in Experimental Mechanics (10th ISEM '15-Matsue). My research interests include testing and modeling for the behavior of reinforced
ground and slopes subjected to static or seismic loads. The published works include
fundamental aspects of reinforced soil walls and new analytical models for the bearing
capacity of reinforced ground and slope stability. An inter-disciplinary research of
hydrological and geotechnical engineering was carried out, in view of the important roles
of subsurface hydrological process played in the rainfall-induced slope failures and
debris flows. In the post-disaster study of typhoon Morakot which triggered a maximum
rainfall depth of 2884 mm in August 2009 in central Taiwan, a new temporal pattern of
rainfall (called Gaussian-distribution-based hyetograph) and a new theory of debris flow
initiation was proposed. In addition, a novel method for predicting periodic rainfallinduced displacements of slopes using the force-equilibrium-based finite displacement
method (FFDM) was proposed to facilitate cost- and time-effective slope stability and

I joined at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute,Cochinas Research Associateand worked on the Plankton resources collected from the seas around in India. I was able to study the Ecology and living resources of fewbackwaterson the south west coast of India during my Research Associate fellowship by the University Grants commission. I started my teaching career in 1992 at St.Marys College, Tuticorin, and later in the School of Applied Life sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayamin the field of Fisheries and Aquaculture. His current interests also include the construction of novel chemical nanosensors that can be used for the rapid detection of environmental pollutants directly in the gas phase. Prof. D. P. Nikolelis group has recently utilized graphene and ZnO to develop chemical nanosensors based on polymer lipid films for species of clinical or food significance such as urea, uric acid, cholesterol, etc. In progress, there is the evaluation and validation of nanosensors that are based on stabilized polymerized lipid films supported on glass fiber filters using a dry spot test using optical methods of analysis (i.e., fluorescence) to detect environmental pollutants such as insecticides, plant hormones, toxins, hydrazines, etc.

After being a Senior Research Scientist for CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scieitifique) in Besançon, France, he joined Max-Plank Institute in Stuttgart, (Germany) for synthesis and production of carbon nanotubes. Levent Bat carried out research for a PhD on the ecotoxicological effects of metals on marine invertebrates. His work involves both ecological and chemistical procedures. Experience regarding heavy metals in some organisms from Black Sea, toxicity of some heavy metals using invertebrates from Black Sea, marine biology and ecology, pollution, ecotoxicology. The composition of phytoplankton, zooplankton,ichtyoplankton, mesoplankton and fish of the Black Sea coast and its impact on the Black Sea ecosystem and fisheries. Levent has been involved in many projects in many European countries related to ICZM (Integrated Coastal Zone Management), MPA (Marine Protected Area) and MSFD Guiding Improvements in the Black Sea Integrated Monitoring System. Among many other projects he provides all information on habitat types of the Turkish Black Sea coasts, including the biology of the Black Sea. He has been involved in many projects as project coordinator with many other countries supported by NATO Scientific Affairs Linkage Grant, NATO Science for Peace and The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) – The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU), for instance in quantification of the recent ctenophore invader Beroe ovata impact in the Black Sea, bioindicators for assessment of the Black Sea ecosystem recovery, comparative studies of meiobenthic community structure off Crimea (Ukraine) and Sinop (Turkey) with respect to identification of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Turkish Black Sea, monitoring of anchovy and sprat nutritional condition in the Black Sea and fishing stock distribution: response on nutritional condition and environmental forces. He is author of many publications with Black Sea Commission (BSC) and Turkish Marine Research Foundation (TUDAV) on Black Sea Fish Check-List, Black Sea Non-Native Fish List, Black Sea Fishes List IUCN STATUS and Red data list of fishes from the Turkish Black Sea coasts, respectively. He also participiated in many EU projects such as ARENA, ASCABOS, BLACKSEA SCENE, UPGRADE BLACKSEA SCENE, MISIS, COCONET.

Sunil Nautiyal is Professor at the Centre for Ecological Economics and Natural Resources, Institute for Social and Economic Change. He works to develop an integrated interdisciplinary approach for sustainable landscape development. This includes an operational framework to integrate approaches from ecological and social sciences to assess the impact of policy and behavioural changes linked with natural resource conservation and management and livelihoods of communities in various agroecological regions of India. He has published over 160 scientific papers and articles having citation over 2400 with h index 27. He participated as coordinator in 20 research projects in the thematic areas of biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, climate change- adaptation and mitigation, ecological modeling, rural ecosystem and livelihood development, RS-GIS in landscape dynamics during last couple of years. He served as provost and academic vice president at Clarion University from 2008-2011. At Fayetteville State University, he was dean of graduate studies from February to June, 2008 and dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences from August, 2004 to February, 2008.He has held tenure track/tenured positions at University of Louisiana, Lafayette; University of Virginia in Charlottesville; Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he served as the director of the PhD program in public policy and interim chair of the master’s degree program in public administration. He served as the director of African studies program at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. James has also worked for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Professor James has authored and edited fourteen books and several are forthcoming. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles in refereed journals and is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Sustainable Development in Africa (JSDA) – an online journal he founded in 1998. He serves on the editorial boards of several scholarly journals, and he is often sought after to provide lectures and opinions on matters concerning development and environmental issues of developing countries. He is the recipient of scholarly awards such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Diplomacy Fellowship; Fulbright–Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship, and The University of California Presidential Fellowship.
He has mentored and supervised Fulbright scholars from Afghanistan, Bahrain, Cameroon, China, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, South Africa, and Tanzania. In 1996, James organized an international conference on sustainable development in developing countries while he was on the faculty of the University of Virginia. In April of 2007, he planned the “First International Congress on Critical Perspectives on Energy, Environment, Technology and Water Development and Protection Worldwide.” The papers presented are forthcoming in the Journal of Global Development Studies and in a book. The following year, he organized the second such conference. Professor James holds a PhD in urban and regional science from Texas A&M University, an MA in environmental science from Governors State University (Illinois), and a BS in biology from Tusculum College (Tennessee). He also studied liberal arts at the American College of Rome. He speaks Italian and several African languages and has lived in and traveled to many countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia. He served as project head and researcher in 22 projects supported by Tübitak, Trakya University, Namık Kemal University, Bilecik Seyh Edebali University and Bozok University Scientific Research Projects Units.
